I am a community cultural heritage conservator and art historian specializing in paper and organic objects conservation with a specific interest in East Asian material culture and traditional forms of care. I am currently the Andrew W. Mellon Postgraduate Fellow in Paper Conservation at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
My commitment to the care of East Asian material culture has become the consistent thread in my continued exploration of the connections between my lived experiences as a Chinese-American, scholarship, and community belonging within this North American landscape of cultural heritage preservation. In my conservation practice, I am interested in the intersections between Western conservation techniques and traditional East Asian methods and materials in ethically caring for East Asian artifacts housed in North American collections. My research examines the global trade networks of the Old China Trade through the lenses of artists' materials, craftsmanship, and technical art history. Moreover, I am committed to increasing the visibility of traditionally marginalized communities through conservation projects involving outreach and advocacy.
